Matthew Irvin is a seasoned criminal justice professional with more than 15 years of hands-on experience in law enforcement. Currently serving as a Lieutenant with the York City Police Department, Matthew leads a specialized division focused on reducing gun violence through strategic planning and innovative, evidence-based approaches.
Matthew’s leadership philosophy emphasizes the importance of empathy, integrity, and collaboration. He is passionate about education and has been teaching at the Harrisburg Area Community College Police Academy since 2018. Matthew believes in creating a supportive learning environment where students can connect academic theory to real-life, practical applications.
Matthew holds a master of arts in criminal justice policy and administration from Penn State and a bachelor of science in criminal justice from Liberty University and has completed the prestigious Police Staff and Command School at Northwestern University.
