Course Description
This course will examine the effect of stress on the brain’s channel-1 (intuitive) and channel-2 (deliberate) processing during critical incidents as well as techniques that lead to sound decision-making during stressful incidents. The remainder of the course will focus on communication strategies that can effectively be employed to gain compliance with non-cooperative subjects. The overall emphasis of the course will be to provide officers with techniques for handling stressful incidents with the best decision-making processes.

After completing this program, law enforcement officers should be able to:
- associate proper communication skills with officer safety concepts
- identify how stress impacts communication
- properly use active listening to gain compliance from a person in crisis
